For many in Wrexham, Christmas can be the loneliest day of the year. Family breakdown, bereavement, and financial pressures often make the festive season challenging. National research shows that 1.5 million older people are expected to spend Christmas Day alone, and 1.4 million will eat Christmas dinner by themselves.

That’s why The Rainbow Foundation is opening Piercy Hall on Christmas Day for the second year running, supporting people across their Social Prescribing and outreach services who would otherwise be spending the day alone and making sure fewer people feel isolated during the festive season.

The event will be staffed by volunteers, including members of their dedicated staff team, creating a warm and welcoming space filled with friendship, festive cheer, and a traditional Christmas meal.

Enhanced Social Prescriber Jo Hammond is leading the initiative, and says:

“Christmas can be a difficult time for many people. Family breakdown, loss and bereavement often feel harder during the festive season, and the financial pressures of rising costs can add extra stress. We want people to know they are not alone – there is a place for them to feel welcome and connected. For our volunteers, it’s a truly rewarding day, and we’re so grateful for the gifts and support that add those finishing touches. A special thank you to our chef, who is cooking up a festive feast with all the trimmings to make the day memorable.”
