9th July 2026 – This Volunteers’ Week, The Rainbow Foundation is proud to celebrate the inspiring story of Andy, whose journey highlights the powerful impact of community support and the difference volunteering can make.

Andy first connected with The Rainbow Foundation through its bereavement services following the sudden loss of his son, Kriss, in September. During an incredibly difficult and emotional time, Andy found comfort, understanding and support through the charity’s services. Like many individuals facing grief and isolation, having somewhere to turn made a vital difference in helping him cope.

Now, Andy is giving back in an extraordinary way. He has become a regular volunteer at the Foundation’s Lunch Club, where he helps create a warm, welcoming environment for others who may be experiencing loneliness or need a sense of connection. His presence not only supports those attending but also reflects the compassion and resilience that volunteers bring to the organisation every day.

Taking his commitment even further, Andy is preparing for a remarkable fundraising challenge this summer. In August, he will undertake a scooter ride from Wrexham to Land’s End and back, all in memory of his son and to raise vital funds to support The Rainbow Foundation’s ongoing work.

Speaking about his motivation, Andy said:
“Without the support from Rainbow, I’m not sure I could have coped. I decided to give something back as a thank you. I know a lot of people who are suffering and need that little bit of support that Rainbow gives. So please help me make a difference.”

Andy’s story is a powerful reminder that volunteering is about more than giving time — it is about turning personal experience into hope, support and opportunity for others. His dedication reflects the spirit of Volunteers’ Week, which recognises the invaluable contributions volunteers make to communities across the UK.
